The main aim of danubeVIDEOARTfestival is to expand video art culture in Austria. One of the fascinating aspects of video art is the ongoing expansion of appearance and content.

danubeVIDEOARTfestival will present a selection of international video art and will include different categories like


short film

narrative

experimental

animation

performance

documentary.


The festival is a non-profit event. There is no entry fee.

It will be shown in the “Stadtkino Grein”, Austria, in March 2011. The final program will be decided in February 2011.



danubeVIDEOARTfestival is organized by two visual artists: Roland Wegerer and Anna Maria Brandstätter.

On March 1, 2008, in honor of Women’s History Month, Humble Arts Foundation, in collaboration with Ladies Lotto, will present “31 Under 31: Young Women in Art Photography,” a month-long exhibition celebrating 31 of the most innovative young women in emerging art photography under the age of 31. The Exhibition is co-curated by Lumi Tan, Director of Zach Feuer Gallery in NYC, and Jon Feinstein, Curatorial Director of Humble Arts Foundation.

We are now accepting submissions from women photographers under the age of 31.

Submission deadline: Thursday, January 25th, 2008

Submission guidelines: 5 – 10 jpegs, 550 pixels wide @ 72dpi, RGB, brief bio and artist statement

We will not consider images sent in a zipped file.

There is no submission fee.

Eligibility: Photographers must be female and born after March 1, 1977

Excited atoms are replacing cupid's bow and arrow this February, where electricity is the primer, glass the canvas, and rare gases and phosphorous powders the magical mix lighting up the gallery walls. Andy's new show presents past obsessions, love, science and the power of electricity - it's not what you think you know about neon.

Neon tubes have an intrinsic beauty. Their splendour is cloaked in often grimy glass, inert and waiting for thousands of volts to bring forth ‘life’. Andy’s purpose as a neon artist is to bring the elements of commercial neon to the gallery - to extract techniques and colour continuations that have impact.

Andy's obsession with glass tubes filled with small amounts of highly purified, inert gases began about 15 years ago and he's made and designed neon in all shapes and sizes for people as far an wide as DJ's, shops, artists,

Kinsey/DesForges is pleased to present “DF (Distrito Federal)”, a solo exhibition of large-scale woodblock prints, drawings, and paintings from Colorado-based artist and noted designer Evan Hecox.

On March 4th, 2008, Barack Obama has the chance to secure the Democratic Party nomination for President by winning the delegates in both Texas and Ohio. We at Upper Playground are pleased to announce our support of Barack Obama in 2008. For too long we have been plagued by mediocrity and incompetence at the Executive level. As an international company, we feel that it is time to support a candidate that truly embodies the American spirit in both his campaign and his ideologies. We believe that Barack Obama is that candidate.

To help secure Obama's bid, Upper Playground has asked the Date Farmers to create a campaign poster to be mass-distributed on offset posters throughout Texas prior to the primary in that state. Upper Playground is offering the same image as a limited-edition screen print of the Date Farmers' Obama 2008 campaign poster through www.upperplayground.com. There will only be 300 limited-edition copies of the poster signed and numbered by the artists available (price is $200 each). All proceeds from the sales of the Date Farmers’ Obama 2008 screen print will go directly to creating more campaign posters and stickers by other artists in support of Obama's bid for President. The limited-edition screen prints are a pre-sale item, and will not be shipped until March 7th, 2008.

Chris Johanson was born in 1968 in San Jose, California, and currently lives and works in Portland, Oregon. His work has been widely exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the U.S. and Europe, including recent shows at the Portland Art Museum in Portland, Oregon, and Galerie Georg Kargl in Vienna, Austria. In 2002, Johanson’s work was included in the Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, and in 2003 he received a SECA award from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

It is with deep regret that we issue this announcement regarding a second incidence of theft at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. On Saturday, March 8th at approximately 4:45pm, another original drawing by Lori Earley was stolen off the wall of her current solo exhibition, Fade to Gray. This comes only one week after the first occurrence of theft the gallery has ever experienced (also a Lori Earley drawing) which happened on Wednesday, February 27th at approximately 5pm. We are releasing this as our official public announcement to alert our clients, collectors, and friends, of the incident—spreading awareness in the hopes that someone comes forward with information leading to the whereabouts of one or both of the missing pieces.

The first stolen drawing was Untitled. It’s unframed dimensions were 10"H x 8"W, and when stolen, it was in an elaborate white frame, measuring 16"H x 14"W with about a 3” depth. The second stolen drawing Awaiting was a bit larger than the first. The unframed dimensions were 16”H x 12”W, and when stolen, it was also in a white frame measuring 22.5”H x 18.5”W with about a 3” depth. We have included photos of both drawings in question, for your reference and identification.

Both the gallery and the artist are extremely upset and disappointed by these thefts. We are still quite shocked that someone would brazenly steal from us in the middle of the day, and quite embarrassed by the fact that it happened not only once, but twice. We apologize to anyone planning on seeing the exhibition (which is up through March 22, 2008) who will experience the show without these missing pieces.

Please be assured that we are doing everything in our power to protect our artists and their works and prevent any possibility of this occurring again in the future. As a precaution, extra security measures were taken and put into effect immediately following the first incident. We have since implemented additional measures following the second theft, and authorities are conducting further investigation on this ongoing case. For the time being, our doors will remain locked, and all visitors to the gallery must ring our doorbell to be let in.

We have a description of the suspect(s) and are currently working with police to try to identify him. Our first incident coincided with reports of additional robberies that occurred in galleries on the 4th and 2nd floors of our building, within the same time period. A man fitting the same description was seen in all three galleries, just moments before each robbery occurred. All reports confirm that the suspect in question is a white male, approximately 6’2” tall, in his mid-to-late thirties. He was seen wearing a blue baseball hat with a navy blue backpack, and he spoke with a very heavy New York accent.

We would greatly appreciate any help you might have with finding the missing works. If you or anyone you know has information as to who might have committed these thefts or leads on possible location of the stolen drawings, please contact the gallery immediately at (212) 243-3822 or info@jonathanlevinegallery.
