Ferdinand Kriwet is a pioneer of media art. Already in the 1960s he was creating exhibitions, theatre performances and radio plays examining how overstimulation from the mass media affects our viewing habits, and analysing the language of television, advertising and photography.

Düsseldorf-based media artist Mischa Kuball is among the few artists who has consistently understood light’s (socio-)political dimensions and used the media accordingly in numerous works and installations.

Until February 19, 2011, von Bartha Garage in Basel / Switzerland presents a selection of works by German artist Imi Knoebel. Imi Knoebel (born Klaus Wolf Knoebel in Dessau in 1940) studied under Joseph Beuys at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf with fellow students Imi Giese, Blinky Palermo, Jörg Immendorff and Katharina Sieverding.
