NEW VIENNA NOW is a multifaceted and sophisticated book for all those who have an interest in present-day creative Vienna. Designed by Stefan Sagmeister, the 384-page publication pictures and describes the wide range of Vienna’s contemporary art and creativity against the background of cultural tradition.

In order to preserve architecture, cultural monuments and relics, they are often re-located, allowing urban displacement to arise—leading to the disappearance of the concept of autonomous geography and archeology. The dislocation of a monument does not only alter the history of its original location, but also leads to a radical re-interpretation of the monument itself.

Occasionally elegiac, but invariably elegant, the photographs in this exhibition reflect what the artist deems as “moments of beauty,” referring to the ebullience of Nigerian life engendered by independence and decolonisation.

Ernesto Oroza’s Archetype Vizcaya marks the highly anticipated return of the Contemporary Arts Project to Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. The Contemporary Arts Project (CAP) is a commission program that invites artists to develop site-specific projects inspired by Vizcaya, a historic house museum and National Historic Landmark located in Miami, Florida. Archetype Vizcaya will be on view from March 4 through May 29, 2011 at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens.

Manifesta is pleased to announce the Host Region and the curatorial team of Manifesta 9, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art, taking place in Limburg, Belgium, in 2012. Cuauhtémoc Medina has been appointed curator and has composed the curatorial team by selecting Katerina Gregos and Dawn Ades as associate curators.

A programme of music events, film screenings and talks devised by Mellors complements the exhibition.

IHME 2011

The Danish artist group Superflex’ installation created for the IHME Contemporary Art Festival is a film and sculpture titled Modern Times Forever (Stora Enso Building, Helsinki). The work shows the Stora Enso building in Helsinki. The film will be shown in Helsinki Market Square on a 40m2 LED screen, so that the original building can be seen simultaneously with the building in the film.
