The Korn Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition “Zombies” by Jillian Mcdonald. The exhibition will be on view from October 26 through November 23, 2010. Reception Nov 12, 5:30pm – 7:30pm. The Gallery is located in the Dorothy Young Center for the Arts and is open Tuesday through Friday 12:30-4:00 PM and by appointment.

Jillian Mcdonald is exhibiting recent videos and drawings that focus on the canon of American horror film and "fear as entertainment" exemplified in that genre. Unlike contemporary horror film itself, her artwork eschews extreme gore and violence in favor of stripped-down narrative, plot, and archetypes.
Art Murmur at Johansson Projects
In Guided Growth, Misako Inaoka revamps Johansson Projects into a zoological garden run wild, existing in a strange parallel world that we are perhaps too familiar with. Inaoka’s work echoes the alchemy of food processing by cross-breeding high art and toys, flirting with the familiarity of kitsch. Fawns with surveillance cameras for heads and a moose with ears-turned-bicycle-handlebars frolic in a wonderland impossibly sweet with an unsettling aftertaste. Inaoka’s serious play addresses issues of cloning, bioengineering, alternative energy in pint-sized figurines suited for text books or toy chests.

Inaoka, born in Kyoto, Japan, had received BFA in printmaking ’01 from RISD (Rhode Island School of Design), and MFA ’06 from Mills College, CA. From 1999-2000, Inaoka spent a year in Rome, Italy, as a part of EHP (European Honors Program). She works with mixed media in sculpture and site-specific installation. Her work has been shown at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, de Young Museum, de Saisset Museum, San Jose ICA (Institute of Contemporary Arts), as well as galleries in New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and Texas, in Japan, England, China and Italy. She is a recipient of Irvine Fellowship for Montalvo residency, National Endowment of Arts for MacDowell Colony residency, and has been an artist in residence at the Headlands Center for the Art, de Young Museum, and Vermont Studio Center.
Museum of Fine Arts, Houston: Cai Guo-Qiang
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
Artist Cai Guo-Qiang has long been known internationally for his prolific and multi-disciplinary body of work that fuses the mythic and the everyday. The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, has commissioned Cai to create his first permanent, site-specific installation in a U.S. museum, in an event that will be open to the public: a monumental ethereal landscape that will line the four walls of the MFAH’s Ting Tsung and Wei Fong Chao Arts of China Gallery, which opens October 17.
True Fiction–Photos always lie at PPAC
Even the documentary photos included in Philadelphia Photo Arts Center‘s show True Fiction tell lies of a sort. I started drifting through the 21 photos by a mix of big-name and lesser know photographers looking for the cheat, for the tell-tale fudge of Photoshopping, only to realize that in many of the photos in this [...]
